Seattle Trip

We just got back from a trip to Seattle. Seattle is only about 2 hours and 45 minutes away. We left Wednesday and stayed at an Embassy Suite hotel that just happened to be within a mile of the Temple. On the first night we just swam in the pool at the hotel. The pool had a really neat 7ft waterfall.

On Thursday, We visited the Seattle Aquarium, took a 1 hour cruise and went to the Pacific Science Center. It was a lot to pack in. We really had a lot of fun. We could have spent longer at the Science Center. There was so much to do. It is a hands-on museum/play place for kids. They had all kinds of exhibits like genetics, space, dinosaurs, engineering, etc. The whole thing had games and tools to help the kids learn. We also saw an IMAX film on Mt. St. Helens. My favorite was the Butterfly Exhibit. They had so many varieties. The plants in the exhibit were amazing too.

On Friday, we went to the Woodland Zoo. We really lucked out with the animals. It seemed as soon as we got to each stop, the animals would emerge from where they were sleeping and move about in plain view. We finished up the zoo with a trip to Zoomazium! It is a big, indoor playground made to look like natural stone outcroppings and a giant tree. The kids had a blast. After the zoo, we went back to the hotel for another swim. That was followed by dinner and a drive around the temple grounds. We finished up the day watching Shrek the Third on pay-per-view in the hotel room.

On Saturday, we went to the Museum of Flight. We started out in the WWI/WWII fighter wing. They had planes from every country and really impressive displays. Mark and I would have spent hours reading the information and watching the old newsreels if we didn't have our kids. We then went to the main gallery where they had all of the space stuff and modern planes. Kenny loved the space displays and the girls loved touching everything. The planes were very cool and right there where you could touch and see. They also had cockpits you could get inside. Lauren and Carley flew the SR-71 Blackbird. They also had a kids’ area with small scale working planes and a helicopter that the kids could operate. The stick and pedals would really move the flaps and rudder.

After the Museum of Flight we went home. It took rather long for us to get home because there was an accident on the freeway that blocked all the lanes. We did finally make it home and are trying to recover from all the fun. Check out the slide show of our trip below.
