Does anyone else have family night like ours? After our quick FHE where it was Lauren's turn to do a lesson (which she picked out a story from the Friend that she ended up not listening too), we then play a game so our stomachs could settle a little before dessert. We started playing Chinese Checkers. Carley got bored and drifted off to play with Lauren who was not interested in playing the game in the first place. Mark and I take turns making Carley's moves in her absence. Kenny was soon to follow and I explain that once this type of game is started you need to finish or everyone has to stop playing as well. Mark makes the comment, "That's why no one likes to play with you (meaning me) because you don't let people stop playing." I guess I'm the kind of person who has to play a game to the end . . . until someone wins, hopefully me ;). Mark's point was that we play games to have fun as a family . . . it doesn't matter if anybody wins. Talk about speaking in a foreign language! Well, Kenny hangs on a little longer and then takes off. We didn't finish the game and I start putting it away, sniff, sniff. Then latter we are dishing up this really good dessert that Mark made yesterday after being inspired from the food network channel. Lauren does not like this dessert so she asked for cheese instead. Cheese as dessert? Really? I guess that is what makes families so fun, we are all so different. We each bring something different to the table to make life interesting and give us these fun learning experiences.
Here is a picture of the great dessert Mark made, Lime Blueberry Tiramisu! This picture is from the show. Mark's actually looked better because the angel cake part was thicker as well as the cream cheese/whipped cream mixture under the blueberry pie filling.

I love this post! I felt like I was right there with you! We are all so different and isn't it great???!!!! Love you!
So where's the recipe for this yummy looking desert? It sounds fabulous!
Just go to the food network site and type in lime blueberry tiramisu.
MMMMM, looks way good.
I would eat that. That is EXACTLY how our FHE nights go EXCEPT we don't have desserts like that. We're more of the store bought oreo kind of people I guess....
FHE sounds about right. We like to throw in a good fight now and again! The dessert looks oh so yummy-
Sounds so good...you're making me hungry and I'm trying to keep going with the JUSTIN IN FLORIDA DIET!!!!!!!!!!!!
ohhh looks yummy!
It's nice to know we're not the only ones with crazy family nights. I'm way impressed with Mark's cooking skills!!
this made me laugh so hard...this is so much like our family nights but like amy said a fight now again spices things up...love how you wanted to finish the game...and cheese, so funny!
Karen - I got a chuckle out of your story. There are so many times we were doing scripture study or FHE and I thought, "is anyone getting anything out of this??" and "can the kids at least not fight for 5 minutes so we can finish this in peace?!!" I have come to the conclusion that the Lord will bless us for our efforts and not whether everything turns out how it should. You do everything you do the very best you can so I am not surprised that you put that kind of effort in to your FHEs. Oh, and that dessert looks divine!
You can come play games with my family any time you want!! My brothers/sisters are all like that. What's the point of playing if there isn't a winner?? It's hard with the kids. They don't quite have that mentality yet.
Aren't all FHE's supposed to be crazy? I'm thinking craziness is a normal part of our family.
your family is so cute! I love Lauren's hair! Can you sennd Mark over to my house to make us some delicious dessert?
You and Stephanie just crack me up!! I love your stories...so played out. I feel as though I am experiencing them with yoU!! FUNNY!!
FHE's are so crazy! We finally started having it at the kitchen table because that seems to be where the kids sit best. It's hard, but they surprise you with what they pick up on! Dessert looks amazing!
We actually had a good FHE last night. We all pick one song to sing at first; we aren't too picky, but I don't allow anything by Greenday (thanks to Alex!). Ryan had the lesson (he pays better attention when it is his turn). He and Dad acted out the story of Ammon. Nice. Then Alex had the activity; Red light, Green light anybody? And we had the treat I made the day before. Alex wasn't sure it counted since it wasn't made just for the FHE treat. My favorite part afterwards was thinking, "For once the neighbors heard us laughing and playing instead of yelling!" Gotta love family!
