Busyness

This has been one of our busiest summer weeks so far. Mark left town on Sunday for work, part of which was in Arizona and came home last night (Saturday). We wanted to join him but couldn't part with that much money. We especially wanted to be together because Thursday was our 15th wedding anniversary. He surprised me with a package delivered that day of the below treats. One strawberry is missing because I just couldn't contain myself before the picture. Soooooo good!Mini cheesecakes which are in the freezer. Did I mention it was a busy week. I had no chance to eat them because I was already partaking of yummy desserts elsewhere.

I tried to be upset about Mark being gone but there seemed to be stuff going on every second.

Monday: The usual volleyball, shopping, housework, school work (I have the kids on a program this summer to keep their brains thinking so insert the chores and school work for everyday, and exercise too) and FHE.

Tuesday: My slow day. Visiting Teaching all morning and finally getting the badminton net up in the backyard.

Wednesday: Cottonwood beach, movie night. I got a babysitter and 10 of us friends went and saw Eclipse together. It is a tradition now to go out for dessert and bash the movie after. We were a little disappointed that we didn't hate it this time.

Thursday (Anniversary Day): Kenny talked us into going to the library for the free Thursday day. Each Thursday they have some guest or fun thing for the kids to do. This week was "Knights of Verita". We learned a lot about REAL sword battles and what it means to be a knight (knights must have courage, honesty, loyalty etc.) It was actually really informative. People from the Columbian (local paper) were there. I was approached by the photographer who had taken a picture of me reading my book and wanted my name for the paper. Then during the show, two audience members were called up to help with a demonstration. Kenny was one of them and he also had pictures taken of him. So locals, look for us in the Columbian...that is if we made the cut. Here are a few pictures from my cell phone.

Later that day I went over to a friends to show her how to do the crocheted headbands. She was leaving for a vacation and wanted to make some for the trip. That night was another night out for me. We had an Enrichment Party for Relief Society. It was a get to know you better night since we have had so many new people move in. The food was amazing but the games were better. My table got to play the Apples to Apples game. I've played it before but never laughed so hard. It was so fun! I LOVE the people in my ward which is one of the biggest reasons I don't want to move back to AZ yet. I would have rather been with Mark in AZ visiting with family but this weeks entertainment was a very CLOSE second. Moving on with that...

Friday: A few of us started playing tennis early Friday mornings. I left Kenny in charge for an hour making breakfast (cereal and yogurt) and getting everyone ready for the day. He did an excellent job. After tennis was volleyball (always a fav for everyone...the kids love playing on the stage with the other kids). Later was grocery shopping and cleaning the house to get ready for the Krimme's, some great friends of ours. Emily's husband was out of town too. She came over with her two kids and we played all night. Emily and I also watched the movie "When in Rome". It was as good as I remembered!

Saturday: Was our Stake Pioneer Celebration. We started the morning by doing the 5k fun run/walk. We walked it all and then some. I was a little nervous taking this on but the kids did great! We saw a lot of fun things amongst all the beauty. Here are a few pictures again from my cell phone.

The walk included the hike around Lacamas Lake...not easy but BEAUTIFUL!

We found this HUGE slug. It was easily 5 inches long.

We spotted several ducks. I learned of Lauren's amazing duck calling abilities. We at first only spotted one duck with its baby and no other ducks around. Lauren started doing a duck call and all of these ducks came around a bend and right towards us.

We viewed this gushing water.

And this evidence of beavers. We also saw an eagle dive in and catch a fish. It was a very fun and rewarding nature hike.

Once we got back to the high school we enjoyed a delicious lunch. There was also the usual bounce house, face painting, fishing game and other field event games. I finally ran into a friend from our Goodyear ward who moved here earlier this year. :)

Later on I got a babysitter so I could pick up Mark from the airport. We went out for a late snack and dessert and filled each other in on our fun happenings from the week. I loved hearing about family whom I miss so much. I can't wait until Christmas when I get to visit with them myself.

So there you have it. My busy week...and I feel like I left some things out. As usual I'm sure it will come to me later...

It's really too bad Mark isn't traveling anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed our girls night. :)

All that sounds so fun, Karen. I know what you mean about the ward. It was the hardest thing for me to leave when we moved (which is saying a lot because I loved a lot of other things, too). The strawberries looked awesome. How sweet of Mark! The nature walk around Lacamas Lake sounds heavenly!! I miss that place. Okay, and the knights thing at the library... HOW COOL WAS THAT?!? I bet Kenny ate it up!!

How fun!!! I really, really need to get up there for a visit! If it wasn't for the photos that you and Harmony post, I don't think I would remember what the color green looks like. It's so brown and dead looking in Arizona right now.

Happy Anniversary you guys! Mark did well with the stawberries. They look absolutely delish!!!

great post, I often wonder how people spend their time, because I am bored to tears. Also, my husband really needs to raise his game for anniversary. great job Mark!

Arizona is just a different kind of beautiful. I didn't miss it though until I didn't have it. Then flying into the desert just took my breath away. Plus, it rains for days sometimes. Days. Like you don't see the sun. It's just gray. Appreciate the big blue sky, sunshine, and how wide open it feels there. All the trees make me feel claustrophobic sometimes. ;) But with that being said, green states are very beautiful for their own reasons too. Especially fall and spring! Yay for fun friends and activities! :D
