Lauren's Turn

To graduate from Kindergarten that is.
Here she is waiting for her turn.Miss Holmberg spent a few minutes talking about each child's achievements and personalities and I was doing good with my emotions until it was Lauren's turn and Miss Holmberg took a big breath and pause before speaking. She talked about not wanting to let Lauren go and how she will need Lauren to come visit often. It tore me in two. I'm so glad Lauren was appreciated so much and that Lauren had a good experience with Kindergarten. If we could only get her interested in academics along with the kindness and helpfulness. She is doing well...she just doesn't care to do well or push further. We sure love her and are grateful she belongs to us!

Got to love the snacks at the end!
A friend stayed longer at got a picture of Lauren with her friends. I'll post it when I get a copy. :)

I think all of your kids are just so cute! She seems really sweet. I wouldn't worry too much about her lack of interest in academics right now. It can be very normal for preschoolers, kindergarten, and even 1st graders to be less than enamored with the things schools emphasize. Usually it has to do with the highly imaginative stage that they are in. Once the child becomes more "concrete" as they say, then school and academic skills become much more relevant/interesting to them, and they start "excelling." For now, she's probably in the stage of, "Why is it so important for me to learn these letters and sounds? I mean, reading is nice and all, but the things I imagine up are WAY more exciting!" Give her a few years.

What is important right now is that she doesn't fall behind. Learning is a family value for your family. You guys always seem to be doing science museums, hikes, etc. and she sees you reading frequently. You and Mark are communicating the message that the Ray family is informed and intelligent. Because of that, she will most likely grow up to be informed and intelligent, because the family value has rubbed off on her. I'd expect by 3rd or 4th grade she'll be moving along and knocking your socks off!

She's such a cutie pie and she reminds me sooooo much of you! Not only does she look just like you but I remember you not caring too much about school at that age either and you turned out pretty darn great in my opinion.

Congratulations Lauren!!!
