I am no longer tense and stressed out...at least for the moment. We had our Ward Christmas Party last night. I am so glad all the planning, setting up and taking down are behind me. And I'm glad it was a smashing success, at least that is what I heard. I was really nervous because I broke tradition. This ward has always done an adult only Christmas party and we tried a family party this year. I think it went over well. We celebrated a "Christmas around the World". We had pizza for dinner which surprisingly was a hit. We then traveled to different rooms to do different activities that would be done in other countries, like decorating gingerbread cookies (Germany), made Christmas crackers (England), learned a Croatian dance (Croatia), folded fans and cranes to put on trees (Japan) and made star ornaments (Philippines). We then headed back to the Gym for a "short" program. The Primary children first sang a song and then Three Wise Men came and delivered candy canes to all the kids. In Mexico, the Three Wise Men deliver presents instead of Santa. We then had a reading from Luke 2 and a special Musical Number. Our Bishop finished the night with a few words. It all went really well. I'm so glad to have it behind me so I can focus on Lauren's birthday and Christmas which are approaching much to fast!
Sorry, no pictures. I was a little bit busy. I'm sure I looked like a chicken with it's head cut off.

Karen it sounds like a phenomenal party!!! What a great idea! I bet you are really exhausted today, but after a good night's sleep, you'll be able to move on to the birthday party.
BTW--Love the picture of you and Mark! You make such a handsome couple. Just thought you should know. :-)
Oh it sounds PERFECT!! Amie and I are now the activity chairs for the ward and our party is this coming Santurday....I konw the chicken feeling!!:) Glad you can rest now!!
Congratulations! I can finally say I know how much work that is. I somehow got myself into doing the decorations for the RS Christmas Dinner. I had a friend help me and together we put in a combined 18 hours of prep/setup time. The crazy part is it took only ONE hour to take it all down! It's insane what we go through for a 2 hour event!
That program sounds AWESOME! Our ward broke tradition this year too. They had a skit where santa was sad because kids had forgotten the symbols of christmas and the true meaning of christmas. Then the covered all the symbols. We then sang songs and had cobbler and ice cream for desert. Short, sweet, and to the point. I loved it!

Glad you got through it. I could never be in charge of planning these types of things. Sounds like it was a lot of fun!
That sounds so fun and cool!! What great, creative ideas! One of the things I admire about you is that you always give everything your 100%.
Your party sounds like it was fabulous. We weren't able to make it to ours. I'm sure it's so much work to put on and I think doing a family party was a really good idea. The kids love getting together with everyone. That is definitely a calling that would intimidate me!
Okay, as a person who attended this, I have to say it was AWESOME!! In my opinion this was a PERFECT family Christmas party! It was just fantastic. (I just saw the "kids say the darndest things" section & laughed so hard!! Hmm... I just might have to copy that!)
What a cute idea!!!! I bet it was a SMASHING SUCCESS! Love the Christmas around the World theme. Will have to put that one in my back pocket to remember.
