We had a very quiet yet fun Thanksgiving this year. We celebrated with our small clan of 5. Mark cooked a turkey breast instead of a whole turkey because we were small in numbers. It is hard to top the turkey he cooked last year but he totally did. It was so moist and tasty. I tried to get a few pictures of him getting it ready but missed Mark and Kenny shoving a concoction of cut up cooked bacon, butter, garlic and other spices in between the meat and skin. I did manage getting a picture of him pouring the bacon grease on the top. But I really can't post it because looking at raw meat gives me the hebe jebe's. Anyway we had the bare minimum of turkey & gravy, stuffing, green beans, sweet potatoes and rolls for dinner and one pumpkin pie for dessert.

Because we were going to be alone this year, Mark surprised us with some entertainment. He brought in a Wii from it's hiding place and the day was golden from that point on. Who knew a Wii could be so fun and get your body moving so much! Ok, most of you know, but seriously, it was so much fun. I was sore the next day and it totally hampered my volleyball playing.

We set the Wii up downstairs and hooked it up to the projector.

So ya...quiet but fun.

The next day Lauren comes downs stairs, looks around and scrunches up her face while taking things in, then tentatively she says, "Today is my birthday." Her looking around and making a funny face totally makes sense now as I realize she is expecting the usual birthday decorations of streamers and balloons. I tell her her birthday is not today and the tears immediately come. She exclaims, "You told me that after Thanksgiving it would be my birthday and then Christmas!" (we have been talking about the order of celebrations for a while now." What a lousy mother I am not to have clarified that these celebrations would not come one day after another. After I explain this, I point out all the fun we would be having that day; volleyball (she loves playing on the stage), more Wii and Zoo Lights in the evening. That seemed to cheer her up somewhat. I really hate making mistakes that totally break a girl's heart.

Ok, so you need to post the recipe that you use to make the turkey breast. With bacon . . . sounds divine! It's weird to be by yourself for holidays, huh? We are realizing that.

We had fun seeing you guys!

Oh...poor Lauren. Alyssa has been trying to figure out when Christmas is coming too. I really need to get with it and make her a chain to count down because I'm sick of answering the "when does Santa come?" question.

Was it sad being alone for the Holiday? I'm realizing that Christmas is going to be really hard for us (again) this year.

Sounds like a good Thanksgiving. The Wii is fun! After tennis, my arm was sore for 2 days! We have had some serious adult tennis matches on the Wii!

Ahhhh, poor Lauren! I've sort of been going through the same thing with Cole. I can't tell you how RELIEVED I was today to be able to say, "It's TOMORROW! YEAH!!!!"

We missed you guys. Our Thanksgiving at Jim and Pam's was really nice. It would have been even better if our two missing families could have been there too but we have Christmas!

Sounds like a great day! The Wii was definitely a great purchase! My kids always choose that as their activity for FHE. It's great to have something that everyone enjoys. And what other time can a 6 year old beat her dad at bowling?!!

Poor Lauren! She must have been very confused and disappointed! Luckily her birthday isn't too far away though! It's funny, to kids, a few weeks and tomorrow don't really mean anything! See you soon!

We spent Thanksgiving just the 5 of us too. It was nice but quiet. I didn't cook anything as good as Marks' turkey. You do need to post the recipe!

Sounds like fun. I have never played the Wii, but it sure sounds like fun. I like it that it is good exercise too.
