And the calling is. . .

Yes, I was called in to accept a new calling. I was really upset to be released as Activity Day Leader. I loved the girls and only got to do it for 6 months! They asked me to be the Activities Committee Chairmen. Are you kidding me?! I love going to activities put on by others and I'm happy to do what ever people ask for these activities but my motto is: DO NOT PUT ME IN CHARGE! Especially over food. I hate cooking in my own house let alone for a huge crowd. I know, I know, delegate. That is exactly what I plan on doing. That does not solve the problem of making decisions. Oh well, I'll do my best. So, what activities have you enjoyed? Please share all your awesome, creative ideas!

Congrats anyways. I'm on the commitee in our ward and we had a Luau the other month (so did Sarival Ward a last fall I think). It was fun, we made Hawaiian Haystacks and had someone teach us how to do some Hula dancing. Everyone got to dress up and that's fun in itself.

My favorite here has always been the progressive dinner. So fun to meet new people in the ward! In the Institute we did a lip sync and it was HILARIOUS!! I think that could do well in a family ward also!! Congrats on the calling...that is fun and you will do GREAT!

Mom had lots of fun when she had that calling! She planned these really awesome family dances and dance festivals that most people enjoyed! She would also do the "Weird and Wacky" talent show where anyone could submit a skit and do it. I did it two years with my pre sunbeams and sunbeams. We would do some type of dance from a play like Groove and Boogie. The people really liked watching the little kids dance. Others recited poetry, did comical skits, talked about their pet snake, etc. She recruited people to sign up if they didn't willingly. It was fun and a great thing to bring your neighbors to.

Out here they do this fall festival type thing at someone's house and do cooking contests, like chili contests, cookie contests, etc. The men actually like this event because they usually get to be taste testers. :)

I'm sure you'll come up with good activities! :D
Love,
Harmony

I think you'll do great!!!!!!! Our favorite activities have always been the halloween and christmas parties. My home ward did a cool outdoor carnival type thing where someone made PVC pipe racks and you threw 2 golf balls linked with string onto the poles..and the points were according to which pole you linked it one. I believe this game sells online as well...but its easy to make once you see what the product actually is. They also had mini golf and other traditional carnival games set up. This is definitely a summer Idaho idea.

What a fun calling! If you have good people on your committee you'll do fine. Our ward does a lot of fun things. We just had a cinqo de mayo party. It was in the a.m. and they had breakfast burritos, had someone tell a little bit about the holiday, the kids brought their bikes and decorated them and had a parade, and they had pinatas. It was really a lot of fun.

We also had a ward pinewood derby. We had the cub scouts do their pinewood derby first and then anyone in the ward could make a car to be in the ward pinewood derby. It was a lot of fun and they had a ton of crazy awards they gave out.

Every fourth of July we do an early flag raising and breakfast at a family's home and then the kids swim.

I hope these ideas help! You'll do great!

Hey Karen congrats on the new calling. Right now I am in Activity Days, it is great. Some of my favorite activites have been a "Street Dance". We did this in the parking lot of the church. Not just for adults. Had a blast. Also, in one ward we would a Munch and Mingles or Linger Longers after church. Get to now people after church and eat goodies. Good luck!!!

Did you do like I did? When bishop called me to that exact calling, my jaw dropped? What? How did I become qualified for this?
